This is a nice lapidary material. Most pieces will take a good polish. Occasionally there are seams of a white to light blue agate within some pieces. The material is filled with light to dark swirls.

Cyanophyta, also known as blue-green algae formed in narrow bands of light and dark coloring. The light coloring is due to calcite and magnesium which was deposited in the external mucal layer of the algae. The dark layer is the result of particles precipitated out of sediment which were trapped between the algal filiments.

This is the same algae which formed stromatolites. Stromatolites range from the Precambrian to recent times (4-5 billion years ago to present).

We sell this material by the pound. Orders are filled with the largest piece available and smaller pieces are added to fill out the order.
