Coprolite: dinosaur dung, Eocene excrement, fossil feces, petrified poo, turtle turds, or what ever you want to call it. We have some really old sh_t here. But it's good stuff, nothing but the best. If you have a spouse (or someone else) who complains that you go shopping and never buy them sh_t, give them one of these and they will never be able to use that complaint again.

You may be thinking, how could something like this turn into a fossil? Usually the only things that fossilize are bones, teeth, and shells (things that are already hard). And this stuff definitely couldn't have been that hard. Well, to create a fossil, what ever is to become fossilized must be covered relatively soon by soil, usually in an aquatic environment where there is little or no oxygen. This allows the specimen to slowly decay and be replaced by minerals. Depending on how fast (relatively speaking) the decay happens, the cavity may be large and a single mineral (or color of mineral) will replace the specimen. If the decay is very slow (a single cell at a time) as in some woods, many different colored minerals may replace the specimen.
