These blastoid plates come from the Ridenhower Formation, Millstadt, Illinois. The time period is the Mississippian age, which extended from approximately 345 to 311 million years ago.
The specimens which may be found on these plates include: blastoids, bryozoans, brachiopods, and crinoids. All blastoids appear to be Pentrimites pyriformis. The bryozoans are probably Fenestella and Polypora. A few plates may contain Rhombopora, Syringopora, or Coriocava bryozoans. The plates containing brachiopods are Platystrophia and some may contain Eospirifer, Meristina or Pentamerus brachiopods. Crinoid or blastoid stems may be present on most plates. The back of plates may also contain bryozoan specimens.
