Striatolamia macrota is an extinct species of shark that lived during the Cretaceous through the Eocene Epoch (140 - 55 million years ago). It grew to lengths of about 12 feet.
There is some discussion (going on) regarding this shark genus. It is currently included in the Family: Odontaspididae. Some authors have linked this shark to the Mitsukurinidae and Synodontaspididae families. The Mitsukurinidae family includes Goblin sharks and the Genus Scapanorhynchus. My feeling is that this particular shark has teeth that include many features that help identify other sharks (the crown, the side cusps, the root shape). I think that because of this some of the other species have been included with Striatolamia.
