The specimen below is a fossil clam. The species is Mercenaria permagna. It is from Ruck's Pit, Okeechobee County, Florida. It lived during the Pliocene through Pleistocene Periods.
The crystals lining the inside of the clam and portions of the shell are calcite, which does fluoresce.
