Our specimens are assumed to be turtle turds from a sea turtle, since they are from an old beach head on the island of Madagascar. Madagascar is an island off the East coast of Africa, in the Indian Ocean. If this is true, then we can also get gender specific, since once males hatch and go to sea they never return to land. Females return to land to lay their eggs. They also leave a few other things along the way before returning to sea.

You will observe that the surface of the specimen is cracked, similar to drying mud. Apparently the specimen had a chance to dry out and harden somewhat prior to being covered for fossilization.

Each specimen comes in its own sanitary bag and odor is no longer an issue. I do caution against agate licking, since I don't know whether or not the finders cleaned the specimen in anything but water.

In any case these are fun fossils to have in your collection.
